Counterpoint: Hazel, John and Hazel's Father Myriel

Counterpoint: Myriel and John Expressions

I also did some expressions of my Skylanders: Sensei Tiger

Tiki Masks, John & Hazel

Since my wife and my anniversary trip to Hawaii I've really been into Tiki statues and the whole island culture. I've really been inspired to put some of that into my Counterpoint designs

I'm finally getting to searching for a look for John the main character of the story.

Myriel & Hazel studies

Myriel looking at some of the earth books in Johns crashed ship. This ship will be brought to Myriels lab for study and for something for John to have from earth.

Story Ideas

I decided that I wanted the Scientist Fathers head to look a little different from Hazel's

Different ideas for the Human ship.

Hazel cutting John's hair

Various roughs

Various roughs of the ship, John's sleeping chamber and other things.
Roughs of Hazel and John and the Scientist

Some roughs of the plane crash and Hazel exploring the ship and finding the baby

I made this drawing when I decided that Hazel would be a protector of John.

This is a sketch of Hazel's Father, he is also made out of vines, but also wears a lab coat.

Second set drawings: Hazel fleshed out more.

I was playing around with head shapes for Hazel and a sketch of Baby John's sleep chamber.

She can use her vines to shoot out to wrap people up and for other things like jumprope!

This is when I got the idea to made Hazel out of vine rather then out of flowers. kind of a tomboy. Some of her vines are unwraped to give her more character

First Sketches

I started out just drawing random creatures of what the different Plant Aliens might look like. The first page on this post is probably the first time that I really felt that I was on to something with the Hazel design. I started out thinking that the air on the planet was non exisitant and John would have to have some sort of breathing device, but then I realized duh everything on the plant is plants. Plants make oxygen. So I got rid of the a breathing device. Im still trying to decide wiether or not to give John some sort of cover to make his human appearance less noticable. I drew my own son Nathan for a reference. I really like the bottom image on the 4th page and the top right image on the last page. I'll probably use them for something else later on. At the very least a background character.
