My trip to Comic-Con 2008

Day 1 Friday:

Friday My friend Steve & I arrived at Comic-Con and separated since we both had different panels that we wanted to attend. I first went to The Dharma Booth (Lost the TV show) to try to take an aptitude test, but they we filled up for the day.

Then I went up to a panel on the Warner Brothers Animation TV show Batman: The Brave & the Bold. It looks like Bruce Timm won't have anything to do with the show, but it still looks very good. It pairs Batman with different lesser known heroes from the DC comics universe like Red Tornado, Plastic Man, The new version of The Blue Beetle, etc. to show new light to Batman's character as he interacts with them. It has an age 6 - 11 demographic. I handed out some portfolios to some of the creators.

After that I wandered thought the Exhibit Hall for an hour looking at all of the cool stuff. I was so crowded though this year.

After that I went to a Panel on Sony's Animated Spectacular Spiderman's 2nd season. It looks like theres going to be a lot of cool stories this season, with villains like Kraven the Hunter, Mysterio the return of a lot of the season 1 villains and other new ones.

In the same room was another panel hosted by Entertainment Weekly's Doc Jenson with TV Showrunners Carlton Cuse & Damon Lindeloff (Lost), Josh Schwartz (Chuck, Gossip Girl), Bryan Fuller (Pushing Daisies) & Josh Friedman (Terminator: Sariah Connor Chronicles). I went mostly to see the Lost creators, I'm going to use my Lost blog to talk more about what they said and about other Lost experiences. http://lostroom23.blogspot.com/

After that I met Steve, and as we were walking out of the building who do I run into, but Carlton Cuse & Damon Lindelof the main creators of Lost! It was such a cool experience! After that Steve & I checked into our motel and I called my friend Eddy from the Lost blog to tell him all of the stuff that I learned about in the EW panel about Lost so that he could post it on the blog. Then Steve & I ate a very late dinner at McDonalds, and went to bed

Day 2 Saturday:

This morning I tried again to sign up for the Dharma Test, but it filled up again. So I entered my name in a drawing, but didn't get called. Then I picked up a few more free stuff for my boys http://ben-nathan.blogspot.com/2008/07/comic-con-swag.html and then headed for the long line to get into Hall H which had the big stuff. On my way to the line I walked by a guy that looked just like Hurley from Lost.
And this kid dressed like the main kid in Avatar yelled out to his Dad "Hey, theres that guy from Lost!" It was pretty funny. I was going early to try to get into the Heroes panel. I don't really care for Heroes, but I wanted to make sure that I had a seat for the Lost Panel. It cut off right before I got it, but that meant that I was able to be first in line to get into the Lost panel. Some people camped out at 5 & 6am to be first in line to the Heroes panel, but I didn't want to go that far. When I got in I was in the middle, but I was just happy to have gotten in. It was a great panel with lots of Lost stuff which I talk more about in the Lost blog http://lostroom23.blogspot.com/ I spoke with the Hurley guy afterwards and got a picture.

After that I tried to go to a panel on the TV show "The Office", but it was full, so I called Eddy to tell him about the Lost Panel. Then I went to a panel on Warner Brothers DC Direct to video series. They spoke about the upcoming Wonder Woman movie and about their previous movies. Bruce Timm was their who created most of the previous WB DC comics animated shows. Nathan Fillon (Firefly, Serenity, Desperate Housewives) was there also since he did a voice for the movies. I got to meet all of them afterwards and got them to sign a Wonder Woman poster. I gave a portfolio to the director and got to meet Nathan Fillon face to face at the Warner Bros booth.

After that I met up with Steve & picked up a free Lost T-Shirt at the ABC booth.

Then we went upstairs & looked at the different D list celebrities signing autographs like Elvira the guy from CHIPS, a Power Ranger, an Ewok and others.

Then I had an interview with two people from JMP creative (A toy company) and they really liked my portfolio. The thing that impressed them the most was my Lost drawing and how I was able to translate the characters into recognizable designs. We spoke about Freelance & Fulltime work and he said that he was going to pass my book on to the next person up and once a project that fit what I do came up they would use me. Unfortunately the company is 2 hours away.

After that we walked around the Exhibit Hall and made final purchases before we drove home.
